ÀNIMA NEGRA WINERY
Anima Negra Winery is situated to the south-east of Mallorca, ÀN Negra winery produces its wines on the old country estate of Son Burguera close to the town of Felanitx. The buildings date back to the 13th century and have always incorporated an area for wine making in order to supply wine to local people living on or near the estate. The cultivation of vines has been a constant feature over the centuries, contributing greatly to the Mediterranean island landscape, and has resulted in wine becoming an emblematic product of our gastronomy.
Ànima Negra Winery produces 4 wines:
This is a wine made from specific vineyards, whose character reflects several unique factors; the old callet vines (40 to 60 years old) that are only found in Mallorca; the poor soil with good mineral content (iron oxide) lying over calcareous rocks and the fact that the vine roots have to dig deep to compete with fruit trees planted amongst the vines. The wine artfully reveals all of these qualities.
This is a blend of the most important varieties of the island of Mallorca; callet, mantonegre and fogoneu, which make up 85% of the wine’s composition. Aged in oak barrels over a period of 13 months gives us a balanced and elegant wine with a unique personality.
Quíbia 2008 was the first year that the indigenous variety of callet has been used, after skilful blending with the premsal, to produce this young, white wine. Fermented at low temperatures and aged on its lees, to produce a fresh and elegant varietal wine.
Son Negre is only released onto the market in exceptional years when, at the end of the ageing period, a unique wine with a superior quality is achieved. If it is not considered to meet the exacting criteria, it is used to make ÀN. This wine is the result of the collaboration with the painter and friend, Miquel Barceló, who has made an exclusive label for Son Negre.
